African History
Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, standing at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) above sea level. Located in northeastern Tanzania, it is a dormant volcano made up of three cones: Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. Kilimanjaro is famous for its snow-capped peak, which rises dramatically above the surrounding savannah, despite being near the equator.
It attracts thousands of climbers and adventurers each year, offering a unique trek through different climate zones—from tropical rainforest to alpine desert, and finally, the icy summit. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mount Kilimanjaro is both a natural wonder and a symbol of Africa’s majestic beauty.

🔥 Did you know that a wildfire broke out on the mountain’s slopes in October 2020, near the Whona area on the Marangu route. It destroyed vegetation and disrupted climbing activities for several days. While the fire was eventually contained, it raised environmental concerns about forest conservation.
